New Loves

I have a love hate relationship with the Internet.  I hate how much time I spend on it but I loooove when I find a great deal! I recently purchased these items that now reside in our Master Bedroom.

I discovered this piece when doing research on graphic prints and just had to have it. I mean, every bedroom can use a lil extra love right?  It was purchased from Made by Girl and only cost me $25.  I slipped into a white frame from Ikea and viola! Instant art.

I found a pair of these nightstands on craigslist.  I just love them.  The amount of storage, the hardware and of course the design! I may end up giving them a coat of white paint one of these days.  Oh, and check out my 97 cent rug sample from pottery barn. It does the trick until we splurge on a real rug!

Marmoleum

I feel blessed to be a part of the design world at this day in age.  There are so many fabulous options out there! Did you know Linoleum is now stylish? It's called Marmoleum and it is NOT your mother's Linoleum.  It is made from 100% all natural products and comes in an array of colors. Unlike typical vinyl floors, Marmoleum has no odor and it's the only linoleum floor certified as Asthma & Allergy Friendly.  They also have a "Marmoleum Click" collection that allows you to easily click your tiles in place without any additional adhesives making it super easy to install.  As if that's not enough to sell you, check out these customized Marmoleum designs in action:

Printed Art

Graphic Prints are a great cost effective and fun way to dress up your walls.  Not to mention the fact that there are a billion websites out there that offer an insane variety prints at totally inexpensive prices!

If you have a blank wall and need to add some energy into a space I highly suggest taking this route.  And if they're a bit too quirky for you why not add these in a children's room or nursery? Just a thought...

Office Space

Although I have an "office" in my apartment I am constantly bringing my laptop to the dining room table to work.  My desk shares a space with the guest bedroom and it's just too cluttered and uninspiring! I can't bring myself to sit in there....  I am constantly daydreaming about having a real office one day (sigh).

Photo Love

Today I am inspired by this gorgeous photo taken by Jeremy Kohm. Isn't it fabulous? Aside from the gorgeous Art Deco interior and classic globe lights, I am in love with the muted colors and soft light. The still water makes me want to jump right in! It is available for purchase at 20x200 - and if you like this photo, be sure to check out all the other great finds on this site! Most pieces are sold in editions of 200 with the smallest reprinted size sold at the lowest price — $20. Can't beat that.

Lamp Shades Galore!

When I received a request to do a post on lamp shades I thought - sure no problem.  Wow, was I wrong.  There are soooo many options out there I didn't know where to start!  This challenge came at the perfect time because I just picked up a milk glass lamp at the flea market and it desperately needs a shade.  It's been sitting on my nightstand for over a month without it's hat. The only experience I have with lamp shades has been through my work and our wealthy clients.  We usually spec out traditional parchment shades with a gold banding or a box pleated number, but when it comes to my own design sense I like things a bit more modern.  Not to mention the fact that they usually run around $200 and that is NOT in my budget! So I did the logical next step and dragged myself to Lamps Plus this afternoon. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised and found the perfect little white shade!

I pulled together the following shade inspirations from Lamps Plus and Shades of Light.  Both companies have extensive websites and (best of all) budget friendly prices!

Before you go shopping for a new shade be sure to follow these crucial measurements. If you don't have an existing shade to base your measurements off of I highly suggest bringing the lamp into the store to make sure you find the perfect fit!
Most lamps use the spider & harp fitting for their shades. It is important to keep in mind that there are different sized harps available - simply changing the harp size can put the shade in it's proper place to create a perfect fit.

Vendor Spotlight: Galbraith & Paul

My first job in the design world was at a fabric store and my love for textiles has only grown stronger as the years pass.  I covet fabric samples as if they were gold! My current obsession is printed linen. It's natural, but with the right design can create a sense of whimsy and modern (if that makes any sense).  A great company I can't get enough of is Galbraith & Paul.  They hand-block all of their fabrics with unique color palettes in their modest studio.  Founded in 1986 by Liz Galbraith & Ephraim Paul, they started out as a paper making studio that specialized in hand printed lamp shades. They now have a line of textiles, rugs and wallpapers!

Cabin Fever

I apologize for my lack of blog posts but I've spent most of my holiday break out of town and I made a conscious decision not to bring my computer.  After visiting family in Northern California for Christmas we ventured further north to the Sierras for a little fun in the snow!  My dad rented a three story cabin and invited anyone and everyone.  I think there were a total of 14 of us one night.  It was a LOT of family all at once! Definitely a trip I'll never forget...The cabin was really nice but the design was nothing special (you're typical rental furnishings).  This of course got my head spinning with ideas on how I would design a cabin of my own...
